What is honeycomb?
Honeycomb is honey still sealed in its beeswax comb, just as the bees left it, never spun out, filtered or heated. Chew the wax or leave it, and enjoy it as an occasional treat.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Is honeycomb different from honey in a jar?
Only in how it reaches you. Honeycomb is honey still in the beeswax cells the bees built, never spun out, filtered or heated. The honey inside is the same food, and no trial has tested honeycomb on its own, so any health points come from the honey. What you're really choosing is the texture, and how little has been done to it.
Can you eat the wax in honeycomb?
Yes. Honeycomb is sold to be eaten whole, wax and all, and plenty of people chew the wax and spit it out once the honey's gone. It's beeswax, which is on Australia's permitted ingredients list as an inactive ingredient with no conditions or warnings. No one has shown it does anything for your health, so it's there for the texture.
Can babies or toddlers have honeycomb?
Not babies under 12 months. Honey can carry Clostridium botulinum spores, and NSW Health advises avoiding honey for babies under one because of infant botulism. Honey in the comb is no exception. For children under two with a cough, any Australian honey cough medicine needs medical advice first, so check with your doctor or our naturopaths.
