Description
Hemp Foods Australia Organic Hemp Gold Protein is a single ingredient protein powder milled from certified organic hulled hemp seeds. The seeds are cold milled mechanically, with no chemicals used, which produces a fine, mild tasting powder that mixes without grit and stays creamy rather than chalky. A 33 g serve carries 21.3 g of protein and provides all nine essential amino acids, and the pouch is a good source of iron, zinc and magnesium. Stir a serve into a smoothie, shake or porridge, or work it into baking and sauces where you want plant protein without grains or dairy.

Hemp Protein
What is hemp protein?
Hemp protein is a wholefood plant protein milled from the seed, so its natural fibre and omega-3 stay in. It's an easy way to top up your protein when you're training hard.

Common questions
Does hemp protein have cannabidiol or THC in it?
The cannabinoid rules you may have read about apply to a different ingredient: hemp seed oil, item 2515 on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1). Cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinols are required components of that oil, capped at 75 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, with oral use only, a 36 g daily cap and two required label warnings. Hemp protein has no entry on that list at all and is sold as a food, so none of those conditions apply to it. We don't describe hemp protein in terms of cannabinoids, and nothing in that item should be applied to it.
Why does a scoop of hemp protein hold less protein than whey or pea?
Because it hasn't been stripped down. Whey isolate and pea isolate are filtered so that most of what's left is protein. Hemp protein is closer to the milled seed, so the fibre and fat stay in. That's the wholefood part, and it's also why the protein per scoop is lower. If you already eat plenty of protein, another shake won't add much. We also haven't found a study on how well your body digests hemp protein, so we can't give you a figure for how much of it you absorb.
