Description
Switch Nutrition Quercetin is a single ingredient powder: quercetin extracted from the flower buds of Sophora japonica, the Japanese pagoda tree, with nothing else added. It is unflavoured and a bright yellow, so it is designed to be stirred into a drink rather than eaten dry. It comes as the 50 g tub, which is 100 serves at a 500 mg scoop.
Product Strengths
- Single ingredient quercetin powder from Sophora japonica.
- 500 mg per level scoop and 100 serves per 50 g tub.
- Unflavoured, with no fillers, sweeteners or flavours.
- Free from added sugar, gluten, dairy and soy.
- Free from animal products, so it suits vegans and vegetarians.
- Mixes into hot or cold drinks, and stacks with other Switch powders.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Vegans and vegetarians; Active adults and athletes.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional; Children under 15 years of age, and pregnant women, except under medical or dietetic supervision.
Suggested Use
Mix 1 level scoop, 500 mg, into about 200 mL to 300 mL of water or your favourite beverage. One to two serves a day is the usual pattern, or take it as advised by your healthcare provider. Do not take more than two serves in a day.
Ingredients
- Quercetin powder from Sophora japonica, 500 mg per scoop.
There are no other ingredients. Published figures vary for the standardisation of the extract and on the quercetin content of a serve, so neither figure is stated here; read the panel on the pack.
Allergens
Read the allergen statement on the pack. Switch products are made in a facility that also processes wheat, tree nuts, seeds, dairy, soy, corn and fish, so cross contact is possible. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Warnings
Do not take more than two serves in a day. Not suitable for children under 15 years of age or pregnant women without supervision. Anyone with a medical condition, taking medication, or with severe allergies or sensitivities should speak to a healthcare provider before use.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, away from direct sunlight, and keep the tub sealed. Quercetin powder stains, so keep it away from light coloured surfaces and do not use a wet scoop.

What is quercetin used for?
Quercetin is used for help with mild hayfever symptoms, and a well-absorbed phytosome form has been studied for itchy eyes, sneezing and a runny nose during pollen season. It's a plant antioxidant found in onions, apples and citrus.

Is this the right bioflavonoids for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does quercetin actually help hayfever?
There's one trial behind it, and it's worth knowing what it found. Sixty-six Japanese adults with hayfever (pollinosis) took 200 mg a day of a phytosome quercetin or a placebo for four weeks. Eye itching, sneezing, runny nose and sleep scores all improved compared with placebo. That's a real, blinded, placebo-controlled result. But it's one trial, in one group of people, using one branded form, so it's promising rather than proven.
Is quercetin a natural antihistamine?
We can't call it that. "Antihistamine" describes how a medicine works, and using it for a supplement is a claim we're not allowed to make and couldn't back up anyway. What we can say is much narrower: it may help decrease or relieve symptoms of mild allergies, and if symptoms persist, talk to your health professional. Nothing here relates to serious allergic conditions.
Can I just eat onions instead of taking a capsule?
Partly. Two hundred and twenty grams of raw onions a day gave 114 mg of quercetin in a human trial, which is a real amount and raised blood levels measurably. A separate 24-week study used quercetin-rich onion at 50 mg a day. But most supplement trials used 200 to 500 mg, and the forms differ too. The quercetin in a capsule is often attached to a phospholipid, which food quercetin isn't. Eating it in food first is still a good instinct.
