MCT Oil Powder
What is MCT oil powder?
MCT oil powder is the same fat as MCT oil, which your liver turns into ketones, dried into a powder. It stirs into your coffee or shake without an oily slick on top, and suits your gym bag too.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Is MCT oil powder as good as MCT oil?
It's the same fat, but it hasn't been tested the same way. Every trial we've looked at used liquid MCT oil or MCT set in a jelly, and none used a powder. So what's known about ketones comes from the liquid. The powder's real advantage is practical: it travels well and stirs into drinks without an oily layer. Check the label, because part of each scoop is carrier rather than MCT.
What's the other ingredient in my MCT powder?
That's the carrier. Oil can't become a powder on its own, so the MCT is dried onto something else, usually a fibre or a starch. It varies by brand, and it's a separate ingredient with its own label entry. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, or you're counting carbs closely on keto, read the ingredient list before you buy.
Can I just use coconut oil instead?
Not as a straight swap. Coconut oil is about two thirds medium-chain fats, but its biggest single fatty acid is lauric acid, and only about 6 to 8% is C8. In a head-to-head trial, 30 g of coconut oil raised ketones no more than sunflower oil did. One review is clear that MCT oil results can't be applied to coconut oil. It's a good cooking fat, but it's a different product.
