Description
Switch Nutrition Tyrosine is an unflavoured, single-ingredient L-tyrosine powder supplied in a 200 g pouch that provides 200 one-gram serves. L-tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid and this powder delivers it on its own, with nothing else added, so it stacks cleanly into whatever you already take.
Product Strengths
- Sets the tyrosine amount in a pre-training stack, rather than accepting a blend's.
- 100% pure L-tyrosine, with no flavours, colours, sweeteners or fillers.
- 1,000 mg of L-tyrosine in every 1 g level scoop.
- 200 serves per 200 g pouch.
- Unflavoured, so it mixes into water or into a pre-workout, amino or protein drink.

L-Tyrosine
What does L-tyrosine do?
Tyrosine is the amino acid your body uses to make dopamine and adrenaline. It's been studied in people doing hard mental work under pressure, so save it for the days that ask more of you.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Will tyrosine help me focus?
It depends on when you need it. The trials that found a benefit were all done under pressure: a hard memory task, or cadets deep in a combat training course. None of the trials we've seen showed a benefit in people who were already rested and calm. The review that brought 14 trials together only gave it a weak recommendation, so it's promising rather than proven.
How much tyrosine do people take, and when?
Most trials used a single 2 g dose, taken about an hour before the demanding task, because that's roughly when blood levels peak. One trial in military cadets gave a tyrosine drink through the day over a six-day course. Lower doses haven't been tested in the trials we've reviewed, so follow your product's label.
Is tyrosine the same as tyramine?
No, and they're easy to mix up. Tyramine is a different compound found in aged cheese, cured meats and fermented foods, and it's the one behind the well-known food warnings for people on MAOI antidepressants. Tyrosine is the amino acid it's made from. Tyrosine has its own MAOI caution too, so check with your doctor either way.
