Description
Optimum Nutrition High Protein Shake is a ready-to-drink dairy protein shake in a 375 mL bottle. Each bottle is a single serve and carries 30 g of protein from a blend of milk solids, sodium caseinate and milk protein concentrate, with inulin added as a source of dietary fibre. It comes as the four 375 mL single-bottle flavours: Banana, Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. The bottle is the reason to buy it: one goes in a bag for the drive home from training, or sits in the fridge as a high protein snack, with nothing to mix and nothing to wash up.

- Inulin included as a source of dietary fibre.
- Ready to drink, so no shaker or mixing is needed.

What does protein powder do?
A scoop of protein powder helps you reach your daily protein total on days when meals alone aren't getting you there. Your body uses protein to grow and repair every cell.

Is Protein Powder right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Do I actually need a protein powder?
Most Australians meet the protein RDI from food, and Victoria's Better Health Channel says shakes and powders aren't needed for most people's health. A powder earns its place when your target is hard to reach from meals, for example with heavy training, a small appetite, plant-based eating, or as you get older and the Australian RDI goes up.
Which protein powder should I choose?
Start with what you can eat, not what claims the most. If dairy is fine for you, whey digests quickly and casein releases more slowly. If dairy is a problem, egg white or beef isolate keep it animal-based, and a pea and rice blend keeps it plant-based. If you're after skin and joint support rather than muscle, you're looking for collagen, not protein powder.
How much protein powder is too much?
There's no NHMRC Upper Level for protein, so the sensible limit is your total daily intake rather than a number of scoops. healthdirect suggests getting 10 to 35 per cent of your daily energy from protein. Better Health Channel notes that very high intakes of 200 to 400 grams a day can strain the kidneys and liver.
Is protein powder safe in pregnancy or for teenagers?
Plain protein powders are foods. But any product labelled a formulated supplementary sports food must state that it isn't suitable for children under 15 or pregnant women, except under medical or dietetic supervision. Many sports powders also contain stimulants or herbs. Read the label, and check with your doctor or our naturopaths first.
