Description
Gen-Tec Vegan Protein is a plant-based protein powder from Australian sports nutrition brand Gen-Tec Nutrition, built on organic pea protein isolate and organic brown rice protein isolate and fortified with L-glutamine, vegan MCT powder and an organic super greens blend. It comes as the 1 kg pouch in three flavours, Chocolate, Salted Caramel and Vanilla. Every pouch holds 25 serves of 40 g and delivers close to 30 g of protein per serve. For someone training hard on a plant-based diet it does the everyday work of a protein powder: a serve after training, or between meals on the days when getting protein from food is not going to happen.
Product Strengths
- Mixes into water or a plant based drink such as almond milk.
- Each serve tops up the day's protein intake from plant sources.

Plant Protein
What does plant protein do?
Plant protein gives your muscles the protein they rebuild with after training, without any dairy. Soy has the most evidence, pea is the go-to if you avoid soy, and most tubs blend two sources.

Is Plant Protein right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Is plant protein as good as whey for building muscle?
Close, going by the evidence. Soy has been compared with animal protein across nine training trials and came out level for both strength and lean muscle. A separate 12-week study found no difference between plant-based and mixed diets once total daily protein was matched. Neither result covers rice, hemp or blends.
Can I call any of these a complete protein?
We don't, and be wary of a powder that does without showing an amino acid test for that exact product. Blending two sources is the usual way manufacturers address it, but we don't have a confirmed amino acid comparison, so we won't claim one. The test results on the pack are what count.
Does soy protein lower cholesterol?
We can't tell you that here. We haven't been able to confirm a study on cholesterol or blood fats for soy or any other plant protein, so we won't make that claim. Cholesterol is a conversation for your doctor, and not a reason to choose one powder over another.
