Ubiquinol
What is ubiquinol?
Ubiquinol is the reduced, ready-to-use form of coenzyme Q10, so your body skips a conversion step. Your cells use CoQ10 to turn food into energy, and some absorption studies show higher blood levels with ubiquinol.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Is ubiquinol actually absorbed better than ubiquinone?
It measures better in some studies. A 2026 crossover study in 12 adults found roughly twice the blood levels of a ubiquinone comparison at 240 milligrams. Reviewers point out that most supplemental ubiquinol is changed back before it enters the gut wall anyway, and that well-dispersed ubiquinone has done better than ubiquinol head to head. Blood levels aren't the same as a health result.
Do you need ubiquinol instead of ubiquinone after 40 or on a statin?
That's a marketing message rather than a regulatory or evidence-based one. About 95 per cent of the coenzyme Q10 in healthy adults' blood is already in the reduced form, and no published trial compares the two forms on a health result in older adults or statin users. Never stop or change a prescribed statin. Ask the doctor who prescribed it.
How much more does ubiquinol cost than ubiquinone?
It usually costs more, because ubiquinol is the more expensive raw material and the less stable one to make into capsules. Prices change, so check the current shelf, and our naturopaths can help you decide whether the switch suits you.
