Hawthorn
What is hawthorn?
Hawthorn is a flowering shrub whose berries, leaves and flowers have long been used in Western herbal medicine. You can choose it as an extract in tablets and capsules, or as dried berries for tea.

Is Hawthorn right for you?
Common questions
Why does the label say Crataegus rather than hawthorn?
Because that's how Australian rules list it. Hawthorn is the common name for a group of shrubs, and Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) names five of them individually: cuneata, germanica, laevigata, monogyna and pinnatifida. A product that uses one of those names is telling you its regulatory basis. If a pack just says hawthorn, it's worth asking which species it is.
What's the difference between hawthorn berry and hawthorn leaf and flower?
They're different parts of the same shrub, and products use one, the other or a mix of both. Schedule 1 lists hawthorn by species rather than by plant part, so the pack is where you find out which part you're getting. If that matters to you, check the label or ask us.
