Description
Lifestream Calcium Natural is a calcium supplement whose mineral comes from seaweed, a lovely plant sourced option for anyone who eats little dairy. Each capsule carries 900 mg of natural calcium from Lithothamnion calcareum, which yields 300 mg of elemental calcium, and the seaweed brings along the trace minerals it takes up from seawater. This calcareous red seaweed lays down calcium carbonate in a porous, honeycomb structure as it grows, and the harvested, milled seaweed is the whole of the active, taken after food.
Product Strengths
- A plant sourced way of adding calcium to the day, for people who eat little dairy.
- Taken after food, one or two capsules a day, so it fits an ordinary mealtime routine.
- Each capsule provides 900 mg of Lithothamnion calcareum, equivalent to 300 mg of elemental calcium.
- The whole active is milled seaweed.
- The bottle holds 60 capsules, one to two months at the labelled adult serve.

Calcium
What does calcium do for your bones?
Nearly all your calcium lives in your bones, which act as a bank your body draws on when you don't eat enough. Pair your calcium with vitamin D, which is what lets you absorb it.

Is Calcium right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Should I take calcium on its own or with vitamin D?
With vitamin D, based on the evidence. Across 15 trials in 51,126 adults, the combination reduced fractures of any kind, and the evidence was high certainty. Vitamin D alone made no difference across 36 trials in 92,045 people. Calcium alone sat in between and didn't reach significance. Vitamin D is what lets you absorb calcium, so the pairing isn't a marketing decision.
What's the difference between calcium carbonate and calcium citrate?
How much calcium they contain and how you take them. Carbonate is 40% calcium by weight, so you get more per tablet, but it needs stomach acid and is best taken with food. Citrate is about 21%, so tablets are bigger or doses smaller, but it absorbs without stomach acid. If you take antacids or reflux medicine, citrate is usually the better choice.
Can I take too much calcium?
Yes, and this is one where more isn't better. The upper limit is 2,500 mg a day from all sources, food included. Randomised evidence found that 1,000 mg of calcium carbonate with vitamin D raised the risk of kidney stones. If you've had a stone before, talk to us or your doctor before you start.
