Cayenne
What is cayenne?
Cayenne is a fiery chilli that gets its heat from capsaicin. Choose it ground for cooking, as a liquid extract you measure with a dropper, or mixed into drinks like ginger shots.

Is Cayenne right for you?
Common questions
Is cayenne the same as chilli?
Cayenne is one kind of chilli pepper. It belongs to the Capsicum family, usually Capsicum annuum or Capsicum frutescens, which is why labels often use the botanical name. Its heat comes from capsaicin, the same compound that makes other chillies hot. Check the pack for the species if it matters to you.
Is cayenne regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Mostly not. Cayenne is sold here as a food and cooking spice, which doesn't need a medicines listing. We found no entry for it under cayenne or capsicum names on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1), and no permitted health claim on record. That's why we don't make a health claim for it here.
