Description
Gen-Tec L-Taurine is a single-ingredient, unflavoured powder of pharmaceutical grade L-taurine. The labelled serve is 60mg mixed into 150mL of water, which makes the 150g tub a long-lasting one at roughly 2,500 serves. Taurine is a familiar inclusion in pre-workout and energy formulas, and the unflavoured powder is here for people who would rather weigh out their own amount into a drink than take it fixed inside someone else's blend.
Product Strengths
- Weighed into a pre-workout or energy drink at an amount you set yourself.
- 60mg of L-taurine per serve: This is the serve printed on the Gen-Tec label. It is a small serve, so measure it rather than estimating by the spoonful.
- 150g tub: At the labelled 60mg serve the tub works out to approximately 2,500 serves.
- Nothing else added: It contains pharmaceutical grade L-taurine only, with no flavours, sweeteners or colours.

What is taurine used for?
Taurine is used for everyday support of a healthy heart, which is where its trial evidence is strongest. Your heart muscle is packed with taurine, and a plain capsule or powder gives you the form the trials used.

Common questions
Isn't taurine just the stuff in energy drinks?
It's the same substance, but the amount and the rules are different. An energy drink is regulated as a food and capped at 2,000 mg of taurine in a day's serving. A supplement is regulated as a medicine ingredient, with no cap on the ingredient. And the kick you feel from a can isn't really the taurine. Reviews of energy drinks put their effects on the heart and on performance down to the caffeine and sugar.
Does taurine help you live longer?
In mice and monkeys, a 2023 study in the journal Science found taurine extended healthy lifespan, which is why so many people ask. In humans, it's only a link so far. People with lower taurine tend to be older or less healthy, but that doesn't show that taking it changes anything. The researchers called for human trials, and the first ones haven't reported yet.
Is magnesium taurate a good way to get taurine?
Not if taurine is what you're after. The trials used free taurine at 1.6 to 3 g a day, and a magnesium taurate tablet gives you far less than that. Magnesium taurate also isn't listed as an ingredient of its own in Australia. You can take taurine and magnesium together, but that's two products doing two separate jobs, not one special form.
