Description
Food to Nourish Sprouted Hemp Seed Spread is a seed butter led by pepitas, with hemp seeds at 10 per cent, sunflower seeds, coconut oil and a little salt. The hemp seeds themselves are not sprouted. It is a tasty alternative to nut butter, spread on toast, blended through a smoothie or stirred into your morning porridge.

Hemp Seeds
What are hemp seeds?
Hemp seeds are nutty, versatile seeds, and hulled ones are often sold as hemp hearts. Sprinkle them on porridge, salads and smoothies, or choose hemp seed oil as capsules or a liquid.

Common questions
Will hemp seeds or hemp seed oil affect a drug test, or make me feel anything?
We can't tell you how a particular test will read, and we won't guess. What Australian rules do set is a ceiling: hemp seed oil in a listed medicine must contain no more than 10 mg/kg of total tetrahydrocannabinols and no more than 75 mg/kg of total cannabidiol. If a drug test matters for your work, ask your employer or doctor before taking any hemp product.
Why does hemp seed oil have label warnings when hemp seeds don't?
Because different rules apply. Whole and hulled seeds are sold as a food, outside the medicines rules. Hemp seed oil is item 2515 on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1), so when it's used in a listed medicine it comes with that item's conditions: limits on cannabinoids, oral use only, a 36 g daily cap and two required label warnings.
Is there an approved health claim for hemp in Australia?
No. Neither hemp seeds nor hemp seed oil has an entry on the TGA's list of permitted indications, across all 17 of its parts, so there's no permitted health wording we can use. Hemp seed oil being a permitted ingredient means it can lawfully go into a listed medicine. It doesn't set out what that medicine may claim.
