Gelatine
What is gelatine?
Gelatine is cooked collagen, the same protein your skin, joints and tendons are made of. It gives bone broth and jellies their body, and it's often used in capsule shells.

Is this the right collagen for you?
Common questions
Is gelatine the same as collagen powder?
It starts as the same protein, but gelatine isn't broken down into short peptides afterwards. That's why it dissolves in hot water and sets to a jelly as it cools, while collagen powder stays liquid in a cold drink. The one trial that compared them directly found both raised amino acids and a collagen marker by a similar amount, though neither result was significantly different from placebo. So gelatine gives you collagen's building blocks, but it isn't a proven swap for a collagen powder at trial doses.
Is gelatine vegetarian or vegan?
No. Gelatine is made from the collagen in cattle or pig hide and bone, so it isn't suitable for vegetarians, vegans or many religious diets unless the product carries a halal or kosher certification mark. If you want a plant-based gelling ingredient, agar-agar and pectin are the usual vegetarian swaps, though they don't supply the same amino acids.
