Chocolate Cacao Carob
What is the difference between cacao and carob?
Cacao and chocolate come from the same bean and carry its natural caffeine and theobromine, while carob comes from a different tree and has neither. Carob is roasted into a naturally sweet powder or bar, so choose the one that suits you.

Common questions
What's the difference between cacao, chocolate and carob?
Cacao and chocolate both come from the cacao bean, and contain its natural caffeine and theobromine. Carob comes from a different tree altogether, Ceratonia siliqua, and its roasted pod has neither. That's the main reason people choose carob: it looks and tastes similar in a bar or powder, without the stimulants.
Is carob regulated as a medicine in Australia?
We found no entry for carob on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1), which isn't unusual for an everyday food. Carob, like cacao and chocolate, is legally sold and eaten under food standards law rather than medicine rules, and no TGA permitted health claim applies to it.
