Description
Absolute Essential True Lavender, also known as Lavender True, is a pure single essential oil distilled from the flowers of Lavandula angustifolia maillette, a named cultivar of true lavender, in a 10 mL bottle. The aroma is the familiar soft, sweet, herbaceous lavender, rounder and less camphoraceous than spike lavender or lavandin, with key components linalyl acetate, linalool, beta-caryophyllene and 1,8-cineol. Use it in a diffuser or vaporiser, or dilute it into a carrier oil before it goes on the skin.

Key components: linalyl acetate, linalool, beta-caryophyllene and 1,8-cineol.

Use it in a diffuser or vaporiser, or dilute it into a carrier oil or an unscented base before it goes on the skin. It is for external use only and is not for internal use. Read the full directions on the pack.

Do not put it on broken skin. Dilute it into a carrier oil before any topical use.

What does lavender do for sleep?
Breathing in lavender oil improved how people rated their sleep across eleven trials. For winding down at night, choose an oil for your pillow or diffuser, a soothing tea, or a standardised capsule.

Is Lavender right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does lavender actually help you sleep, or is it just a nice smell?
Several reviews point the same way. Breathing in lavender moderately improved how people rated their sleep, most strongly in older adults, where one review of ten trials found every study used inhalation. The catch is that the most rigorous single trial, in postmenopausal women, missed its main goal.
Capsule or oil on the pillow. Which one should I buy?
They have two different sets of evidence, not just different packaging. The mild anxiety trials used a standardised lavender oil capsule at 80 mg a day for six weeks or more. The sleep research is nearly all about breathing it in. Choose by what you want it for, because one result doesn't carry over to the other.
Why does my lavender oil smell so different from my friend's?
It may not be the same plant. Australian ingredient rules list true lavender, lavandin and spike lavender as separate ingredients with different camphor rules. Lavandin oil is only permitted as a flavour or fragrance, and spike lavender must carry label warnings above set camphor levels. Check the botanical name on the bottle.
