Description
Absolute Essential Spike Lavender, also known as Lavender Spike, is a pure single essential oil distilled from the flower of Lavandula latifolia, in a 10 mL bottle. It is a different species from true lavender and you can smell it: sharper and more camphoraceous than Lavandula angustifolia, with key components linalool, 1,8-cineol and camphor. Use it in a diffuser or vaporiser, or dilute it into a carrier oil before it goes on the skin.
Product Strengths
- Pure Lavandula latifolia, distilled from the flower.
- A sharper, more camphoraceous aroma than true lavender.
- Key components: linalool, 1,8-cineol and camphor.
- For a diffuser or vaporiser, or diluted into a carrier oil for the skin.
- 10 mL bottle.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Adults; use in a diffuser or vaporiser; dilution into a carrier oil or an unscented base before any topical use; blending with other single oils.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; application to or near the face of infants or children under ten years of age; use on burns; neat application to the skin; internal use of any kind; use in or near the eyes.
Ingredients
- 100% pure Lavandula latifolia (Lavender Spike) essential oil, distilled from the flower, France.
Published key components: linalool, 1,8-cineol and camphor.
Suggested Use
Use it in a diffuser or vaporiser, or dilute it into a carrier oil or an unscented base before it goes on the skin. It is for external use only and is not for internal use. Read the full directions on the pack.
Storage
Store the bottle upright with the cap closed, in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Light and warmth shorten the life of a plant oil.
Warnings
Keep out of reach of children. For external use only. Not for internal use. Avoid contact with the eyes and flush with water if contact occurs. Stop using it if skin irritation or sensitivity develops.
Absolute Essential's own caution for this oil is: "Due to higher camphor content than other lavender oils, this oil is not suitable for burns and may irritate in direct skin applications."
Established aromatherapy safety guidance for oils rich in 1,8-cineole is not to apply them to or near the face of infants or children under ten years of age. This oil is 1,8-cineole rich and it carries camphor as well.
Disclaimer
For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes. Patch test on a small area of skin before wider topical use. Always read the label and follow the directions for use. This information is general and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare practitioner.
Allergens
The published constituent list names linalool. No other fragrance allergen is printed by name for this oil. Always review label for full list of ingredients.

What does lavender do for sleep?
Breathing in lavender oil improved how people rated their sleep across eleven trials. For winding down at night, choose an oil for your pillow or diffuser, a soothing tea, or a standardised capsule.

Is Lavender right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does lavender actually help you sleep, or is it just a nice smell?
Several reviews point the same way. Breathing in lavender moderately improved how people rated their sleep, most strongly in older adults, where one review of ten trials found every study used inhalation. The catch is that the most rigorous single trial, in postmenopausal women, missed its main goal.
Capsule or oil on the pillow. Which one should I buy?
They have two different sets of evidence, not just different packaging. The mild anxiety trials used a standardised lavender oil capsule at 80 mg a day for six weeks or more. The sleep research is nearly all about breathing it in. Choose by what you want it for, because one result doesn't carry over to the other.
Why does my lavender oil smell so different from my friend's?
It may not be the same plant. Australian ingredient rules list true lavender, lavandin and spike lavender as separate ingredients with different camphor rules. Lavandin oil is only permitted as a flavour or fragrance, and spike lavender must carry label warnings above set camphor levels. Check the botanical name on the bottle.
