Description
Springfields Pine (Scotch) is a pure pine needle essential oil with a wonderful earthy, forest-like aroma. It is a middle note that gives a room the clean, green character of a conifer forest, and it blends easily with citrus, herbaceous and woody oils. The oil is supplied undiluted, so use it in a vaporiser or diffuser, or dilute it in a carrier oil for massage and body blends.
Product Strengths
- Pine has a long tradition of use in aromatherapy as a fresh, clearing scent through the colder months.
- 100% pure pine needle essential oil, supplied undiluted rather than pre blended in a carrier.
- Earthy, forest-like aroma that carries well through a room.
- Distilled from the needles of the pine tree.
- Suits vaporisers, diffusers and room blends, and dilutes into carrier oils for massage.
- Blends comfortably with citrus, herbaceous and woody oils.
- From Springfields, an Australian aromatherapy house.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: General household use.
Not suitable for: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional.
Botanical Source
Botanical name: the pack name identifies this as Scotch pine, which is Pinus sylvestris. The oil is pure pine needle essential oil, with no botanical binomial declared on the pack.
Plant part: needles.
Extraction: not declared for this bottle. Conifer needle oils of this type are normally steam distilled.
Country of origin: not declared.
How to Use
Vaporiser or diffuser: add a few drops to the water reservoir of an oil burner or diffuser and follow the appliance instructions.
Massage and body blends: dilute in a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond before any skin contact. A usual guide for adults is 1 to 3 per cent, which is about 1 to 3 drops of essential oil in 5 mL of carrier oil.
Blending: pine is a middle note and sits well with citrus, herbaceous and woody oils.
Do not apply the undiluted oil to skin and do not take it internally.
Safety
- Not for internal use unless you are under the care of a practitioner qualified to prescribe essential oils that way.
- Always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact. The usual guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent.
- Patch test a diluted blend on a small area of skin before wider use and stop if redness, itching or irritation develops.
- Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes. If oil reaches the eye, wipe with a plain carrier oil and then rinse thoroughly with water, and seek medical advice if discomfort continues.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Essential oils are flammable. Keep away from naked flame, candles, cigarettes and other ignition sources.
- Conifer needle oils oxidise as they age and once oxidised they are more likely to irritate or sensitise the skin. Keep the bottle tightly capped, store it cool and dark, and do not use skin blends made with an old or badly stored bottle.
- Use lower dilutions on children, older or frail people and anyone with sensitive skin, and seek advice from a qualified practitioner before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have a skin condition, asthma, epilepsy or any other medical condition.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees C in the original dark glass bottle with the cap firmly closed, away from direct sunlight, heat and naked flame. Keep out of reach of children.
