Description
HealthWise NAG is a single ingredient powder: pharmaceutical grade N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and nothing else, packed by weight rather than by volume, with no fillers and no flowing agents. It is made from cleaned crustacean shells, dissolves readily and is heat stable, so it goes into a hot drink as easily as a cold one, and one 5 mL metric teaspoon holds 1.5 g. N-acetyl-D-glucosamine is the acetylated form of glucosamine and one of the building blocks the body makes hyaluronan and the other glycosaminoglycans from, and a serve in a drink between meals adds it to the day's intake.
Product Strengths
- N-acetyl-D-glucosamine is one of the building blocks of hyaluronan and the other glycosaminoglycans.
- Taken between meals, stirred into any drink.
- 100% pure N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, pharmaceutical grade.
- Processed to keep the N-acetyl-D-glucosamine molecule intact.
- Packed by weight, without fillers or flowing agents.
- Dissolves readily and is heat stable, so hot drinks suit it as well as cold.
- One 5 mL metric teaspoon holds 1.5 g.
- Gluten free and dairy free.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Adults. Gluten free and dairy free.
Not suitable for: Anyone with a shellfish or crustacean allergy, and children, unless advised by a health professional; Vegans and vegetarians, because it contains crustacea.
Ingredients
| Each 5 mL metric teaspoon contains | Amount |
|---|---|
| N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine | 1500 mg (1.5 g) |

Allergens
Contains crustacean shells. Anyone with a shellfish or crustacean allergy should speak to a health professional before use. Gluten free and dairy free. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Suggested Use
As a dietary supplement for general health, take up to 2 g, just over one 5 mL metric teaspoon, with any beverage between meals. It dissolves readily and is heat stable, so cold or hot drinks both work.

Glucosamine
A joint-care favourite for decades.
Glucosamine is an amino sugar your body uses to build cartilage. In a large review of 47 trials, the sulfate form was linked to easier knee pain over a year or more.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Does glucosamine actually work for joints?
The evidence is mixed, and we'd rather tell you straight. A network analysis of 47 trials in 22,037 patients found glucosamine sulfate was one of only two options linked to less knee pain over a year or more. But an analysis of individual patient data, independent of industry and covering 55% of everyone ever enrolled in these trials, found it no better than placebo. Both are genuine findings.
Does the type of glucosamine matter?
Yes, more than most people expect. The encouraging long-term evidence is specifically for glucosamine sulfate, and you can't swap it for the hydrochloride form. Australia also treats the forms differently: the potassium chloride version carries a kidney and heart warning and a 550 mg potassium limit. Check which form is on your label.
Can I take it if I'm allergic to shellfish?
Not the kind made from shellfish, which is most of it. Glucosamine is traditionally made from chitin in crustacean shells, and Australian side effect reports for glucosamine and chondroitin were mostly allergic reactions. Corn-fermented glucosamine is available and avoids shellfish entirely. If you also have asthma, talk to us first either way.
