Drink Up! Superfood Real Hot Chocolate treat

Drink Up! Superfood Real Hot Chocolate treat
  • Health advice
  • Nov 26, 2014
Real Chocolate Drink - enjoy hot or cold! The perfect treat for the evening - whether it is a warm summer evening or a cool winter nights…and a healthy indulgence without the guilt. Leave behind the instant chocolate mixes containing highly processed sugar, fats and dairy powders, and instead indulge in a mug full of superfood healthy cacao and spices bursting with antioxidants, minerals and natural feel-good chemicals.

Superfood Real Hot (or Cold) Chocolate

  • 1 ½ cups non-dairy milk of choice – almond (hazelnut, oat or rice (the nut milks make it especially creamy and decedent) or water)
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil or butter
  • 1 tbsp Honey or Coconut sugar (or ½ t stevia to substitute)
  • 2 tbsp Raw Cacao powder
  • 2 tsp Maca powder
  • Optional: pinch each of Cinnamon (Cayenne pepper and Sea salt)
  1. Warm milk or water on stove and let cool slightly. If a raw hot chocolate is desired, do not heat the liquid to more than 42°C – or about finger touch temperature. Please note that this method will not result in a drink as hot as normal, but will retain all the nutrients of a raw drink.
  2. Stir through coconut oil/butter and sweetener until melted and combined
  3. Whisk in all dry ingredients until well combined
  4. For an extra creamy hot chocolate, blend briefly in blender or frother until smooth, frothy and creamy
  5. Fro a cool drink delight - add ice and stir, or cool in the fridge first. You may need to froth it again once it is cool
  6. Enjoy!
