We asked our practitioners to share their best insights for prevention, early screening, and maintaining healthy prostate function.
Expert Insights from Our Practitioners
Yasmin (Clinical Reflexologist, Herbalist, Nutritionist, Aromatherapist)
“It’s common for the prostate gland to get bigger as men age. Around 50% of men over the age of 50 experience benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The good news is that there are many natural supplements that can slow down progression and support prostate health and function.
For some men, an enlarged prostate doesn’t cause any symptoms. Others may experience waking frequently at night, needing to urinate more often or urgently, weak urine flow, dribbling after urination, or discomfort.
Your doctor can advise on appropriate screenings, which may include a PSA test (a blood test) or physical prostate exam.
A healthy lifestyle — including regular exercise, a balanced Mediterranean-style diet, and maintaining a healthy weight — makes a real difference. Include foods rich in omega-3s, zinc, and lycopene (found in cooked tomatoes, watermelon, and guava).
Vitamin D is also important for prostate health — get regular, safe sun exposure or supplement as needed.”
Yasmin recommends
Combines Saw Palmetto (USPlus™), Zinc, Selenium, and Vitamin D3 for prostate and urinary tract support.
Supports bone, immune, and hormonal health.
Assists antioxidant protection and healthy reproductive function.
Tracy Xiao (Nutritionist & Dietitian)
“Lifestyle plays a key role in long-term prostate health. I encourage clients to maintain a balanced diet rich in zinc (from lean meats, seafood, nuts, and seeds) and omega-3 fats (from oily fish). Regular exercise, a healthy body weight, and limiting processed meats and alcohol are all beneficial.
When discussing prostate health, I link it to overall men’s wellbeing and prevention. Regular GP check-ups and early screening can lead to early detection and better outcomes. Normalising these conversations during Movember helps reduce stigma and encourages proactive care.”
Krista Gilen (Dietitian, Naturopath & Herbalist)
“Promote long-term prostate wellbeing through regular exercise, a diet rich in antioxidants (like tomatoes and green tea), and stress management. Start by normalising proactive health — framing zinc and saw palmetto as supportive supplements and encouraging routine screenings as part of overall wellbeing, not just disease prevention.”
Krista's favourites:
Supports prostate, hormonal, and immune health.
Contains an extract of Saw Palmetto berries for urinary and prostate support.
Thitima Malaphet (Naturopath)
“Adopt a traditional whole food or Mediterranean-style diet rich in good fats (from fatty fish, nuts, and seeds), olive oil, berries, and red grapes. Foods high in zinc and selenium support antioxidant activity and hormonal balance.
Broccoli and green tea provide polyphenols & antioxidants that protect against chronic disease including conditions affecting the prostate. Maintain an active lifestyle, limit alcohol, and stop smoking.
Every man in his early 50s should speak with their GP about prostate health — a simple blood test (PSA) can help with early detection.”
Easy Lifestyle Tips for Prostate Health
- Get screened early. Speak to your GP about PSA testing from your early 50s — or earlier if there’s family history.
- Move daily. Regular exercise supports hormone balance and healthy weight maintenance.
- Follow a Mediterranean-style diet. Focus on vegetables, fish, olive oil, legumes, nuts, and whole grains.
- Add zinc-rich foods. Include oysters, pumpkin seeds, and lean meats for prostate tissue support.
- Prioritise vitamin D and sunlight. Aim for short, safe exposure most days.
- Stay hydrated and limit alcohol. Alcohol can irritate the bladder and increase oxidative stress.
- Reduce stress. Chronic stress affects hormones and overall men’s health. Try mindfulness or outdoor activity.
- Quit smoking. Smoking increases oxidative damage and impacts vascular health.
Prostate health is not a taboo topic anymore. Through early checks, smart nutrition, regular movement, and quality supplements, men can support their prostate function and overall wellbeing well into later life.
Movember is the perfect time to start the conversation, and take action.
