Description
Springfields Peppermint is a 100% pure essential oil, steam distilled from the leaves of Mentha x piperita, the natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint. The aroma is fresh, cool and sharply minty, a bright top note, and the oil produces a pronounced cooling sensation on the skin. It is supplied undiluted, so it is intended for use in a vaporiser or diffuser, or blended into a carrier oil.
Product Strengths
- Peppermint is traditionally used in aromatherapy as a sharp, reviving scent to diffuse through the day.
- 100% pure peppermint essential oil, supplied undiluted rather than pre blended in a carrier.
- Steam distilled from the leaves of Mentha x piperita.
- Fresh, cool, minty aroma with a distinct cooling feel on the skin.
- Works in a vaporiser or diffuser, and dilutes readily into carrier oils such as jojoba or sweet almond for massage and skincare blends.
- From Springfields, an Australian aromatherapy house.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: General household use.
Not suitable for: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional.
Botanical Source
Botanical name: Mentha x piperita, a natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint.
Plant part: leaves.
Extraction: steam distillation.
Country of origin: not declared for this bottle.
How to Use
Vaporiser or diffuser: add a few drops to the water reservoir of an oil burner or diffuser and follow the appliance instructions.
Massage and skincare blends: dilute in a carrier oil before any skin contact. A usual guide for adults is 1 to 3 per cent, which is about 1 to 3 drops of essential oil in 5 mL of carrier oil.
Blending: peppermint is a top note and sits well with other fresh and herbaceous oils.
Do not apply the undiluted oil to skin and do not take it internally.
Safety
- Peppermint is menthol rich. Do not apply it on or near the face of infants or young children, and keep it well away from a child's nose and mouth.
- Not for internal use unless you are under the care of a practitioner qualified to prescribe essential oils that way.
- Always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact. The usual guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent.
- Patch test a diluted blend on a small area of skin before wider use and stop if redness, itching or irritation develops.
- Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes. If oil reaches the eye, wipe with a plain carrier oil and then rinse thoroughly with water, and seek medical advice if discomfort continues.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Essential oils are flammable. Keep away from naked flame, candles, cigarettes and other ignition sources.
- Peppermint is one of the oils that standard aromatherapy references traditionally list as best avoided during pregnancy. No pregnancy statement for this bottle, so the two do not line up: if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, seek advice from a qualified practitioner before use.
- Seek advice before use on children, on older or frail people, or if you have a skin condition, asthma, epilepsy or any other medical condition.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees C in the original dark glass bottle with the cap firmly closed, away from direct sunlight, heat and naked flame. Keep out of reach of children.
