Description
Springfields Lemon Organic is a single, unblended certified organic lemon essential oil, cold pressed from the fruit peel of Citrus limon and supplied in an 10 mL bottle. The aroma is light, sharp and unmistakably fresh, and like most citrus rind oils it earns its place in a blend by lifting everything around it. Because it is a cold pressed peel oil it carries a sunlight caution, which is set out in the Safety section below and is not optional reading. In practice it is used a few drops at a time in a diffuser, or added to a blend that smells heavy, where a sharp rind note lifts it more effectively than any amount of extra floral.
Product Strengths
- Lemon is traditionally used in aromatherapy as a clean, refreshing scent for a room.
- One hundred per cent pure lemon essential oil, with no carrier oil, extender or added fragrance.
- ACO Certified Organic, which covers organic principles from the farm through to the finished product.
- Cold pressed from the fruit peel, the method that keeps the bright, zesty character of the fresh rind.
- Every batch is tested for authenticity, including GC and MS analysis and checks for pesticide and herbicide residues.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: General household use.
Not suitable for: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional.
Botanical Source
Botanical name: Citrus limon, also written Citrus limonum
Plant part: fruit peel
Extraction: cold pressing, also called cold expression
Country of origin: No country of origin for this oil. Springfields sources essential oils from around the world, including Australia, and the oils are blended and bottled in Australia.
How to Use
- Diffuser or vaporiser: add a few drops to the water reservoir and run the appliance according to its own instructions.
- Massage and body blends: dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin. The usual guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent. Read the sunlight caution below before you apply any lemon blend to skin.
- Bath: mix the oil into a dispersant or a little carrier oil first, because neat oil floats on water and can irritate skin.
- Blending companions listed on the pack include all the citrus oils, lavender, geranium, bergamot, frankincense, fennel, basil, peppermint, rosemary and ylang ylang.
- Confirm directions for use from the product label.
Safety
- Not for internal use. Do not take this oil by mouth unless you are doing so under the supervision of a suitably qualified practitioner. The maker's label states plainly that it is not to be taken.
- Always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact. The usual aromatherapy guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent in a carrier such as sweet almond, jojoba or apricot kernel oil.
- Patch test a small area of skin first and stop using the oil if redness, itching or irritation develops.
- Keep away from the eyes, the inner ears and other mucous membranes, and do not apply to broken or damaged skin.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Essential oils are flammable. Keep the bottle away from naked flame, heaters and other ignition sources.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are under medical care, speak with a qualified health professional before using essential oils.
- Sunlight and sunbeds. This is a cold pressed citrus peel oil, and cold pressed citrus peel oils can make skin far more sensitive to ultraviolet light. Springfields carries a sunlight and UV caution on its cold pressed Bergamot and publishes no bergapten-free or FCF grade of lemon anywhere in its range, so treat this bottle as a standard cold pressed oil that is not bergapten-free. Keep any skin you have applied it to out of direct sunlight and off sunbeds for at least 12 hours afterwards.
- Citrus peel oils oxidise once the bottle is opened, and oxidised citrus oil is more likely to irritate skin. Keep the cap on tightly, store it cool and dark, and replace it rather than using an old, resinous smelling bottle.
Storage
Springfields directs that this oil is stored below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep it in the original tightly capped bottle, standing upright, away from direct sunlight, heat and naked flame, and out of reach of children.
