Description
Australian Pumpkin Seed Co Pumpkin Seed Flour is what is left after the seed has been cold-pressed for its oil: the press cake, finely milled into a soft green powder. Because most of the oil has been removed, it is a concentrated, low-fat form of the seed with a roasted, nutty flavour, and it keeps far better than a whole-seed meal would. It is grain free and naturally gluten free. It comes as the 250 g and 500 g packs.
Product Strengths
- Made from Australian-grown heirloom pumpkin seeds from Victoria's Ovens Valley, milled after cold pressing.
- One ingredient, with the oil removed rather than anything added.
- Grain free and naturally gluten free, so it suits grain-free and gluten-free baking.
- A concentrated source of plant protein, dietary fibre and magnesium.
- Roasted, nutty flavour and a distinctive green colour that carries into baked goods.
- Low in fat compared with whole seeds or seed meals, and less prone to going rancid for the same reason.
- Works as a partial flour replacement, a crumb substitute, or a spoonful in smoothies and porridge.
- Available on this pack in 250 g and 500 g packs.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Those avoiding gluten; Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients.
Serving Suggestion
Substitute roughly one third of a cup of the regular flour in a recipe with pumpkin seed flour and bake as normal; it works well in pancakes, crackers, breads and biscuits. It can also stand in for breadcrumbs in a crumb coating, or be stirred into smoothies, porridge, muesli, yoghurt or fruit. Confirm serving and directions from product label.
Ingredients
- Pumpkin seed flour (100 per cent), milled from cold-pressed Australian pumpkin seed cake.
Allergens
Contains no declared allergens. Gluten free and grain free. The brand's packs carry a statement that the product is packed on machinery that also processes chocolate, which may contain traces of nuts and seeds, and the producer handles hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, macadamias and pecans at the same site, so anyone with a tree nut allergy should read the pack before eating. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Nutrition Information
Producer declared figures per 100 g.
| Average quantity | Per 100 g |
|---|---|
| Protein | 49 g (49%) |
| Iron | 13.4 mg |
| Zinc | 14 mg |
This is not a full nutrition information panel. Only the protein percentage and these two minerals are declared, and no serve size is given, so read the panel on the pack for energy, fat, carbohydrate and sodium. The figures are consistent with a partially defatted pumpkin seed press cake, in which protein, iron and zinc all concentrate as the oil is removed.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal the pack after opening, or transfer to an airtight container, and use by the date on the pack.
