Green Tea and Green Coffee what’s your story?

You may know Green Tea and Green Coffee help with weight loss, but there’s so much more to their story…

Green Tea Powder & CupA 4000 thousand year old love affair with Green Tea

If you were one of the first to sip tea in the Chinese Tang Dynasty, you might be astounded at the long love affair we were to have with tea…

The story of Green Tea, or 绿茶 (pronounced lǜchá) was first immortalized in the ‘The Classic of Tea’. Written by Lu Yu between 760 CE and 762 CE in China, this botanical record on tea is believed to be the first of its kind. It tells us tea was so highly valued it was revered as a daily necessity, consumed for its health benefits, and the rich culture of sharing with fellow tea drinkers.

We continue to enjoy Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) today as a rich source of antioxidants, for its weight loss benefits and for the ritual of pausing and pouring a cuppa. Known for its delicate flavour, Green Tea is made with cooler water than black tea. Both green and black teas actually come from the same plant Camellia sinensis, but are prepared differently which puts Green Tea in front when it comes to antioxidant content (from catechins).

Green Coffee – where have you been?

Green Coffee Beans GrowingGreen Caffè Latte? Not really. It’s called Green Coffee (Coffea canephora) because the raw unroasted beans are selected. Immature coffee beans are green, once mature they become brown, yellow or red and both are used to make the unroasted Green Coffee extract. By leaving the beans raw, instead of roasting them for your regular cup of coffee, one of the naturally occurring constituents is preserved, Chlorogenic acid (CGA). This is what makes Green Coffee interesting when it comes to weight loss.

Even though coffee was first cultivated in 1600 in India, it wasn’t until 2000 we uncovered the benefits of Green Coffee for people wanting help with weight loss.

Chinese Traditions for Today

Many people who are overweight, according to ancient philosophies of Chinese medicine, are affected by excess Dampness and often also excess Heat. This imbalance can contribute to weight issues and also to challenges in weight loss.

In fact, Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) aims to bring these imbalances into harmony, to restore the body’s metabolism and allow a healthy body weight to be achieved.

Green Tea and Green Coffee may be used in TCM to resolve Dampness and clear excess Heat that often affects people who are overweight.
