3 Steps to prevent and reduce Cellulite

3 Steps to prevent and reduce Cellulite

What is Cellulite?

Humans have strands of connective tissue that separate fat cells into compartments and connect fat to skin. In women, these fibres form a honeycomb shape, so any increase in fat tends to bulge out like stuffing in a mattress. Cellulite is rare in men because their fibres run horizontally, forming a criss-cross pattern that prevents bulging or lumpiness. Though the equivalent in men is belly fat, which can have similar challenges.

Cellulite increases with age

Because our tissues change as we age, cellulite usually gets worse with age. Blood circulation to the skin decreases, which means less oxygen and nutrition to the skin, and with that we see a decrease in collagen production resulting in thinning skin. The strands of connective tissue thicken with age, and together with thinner skin, make cellulite more noticeable. In addition, we gain fat with age. The average woman loses 2kg of muscle and replaces it with about 7kg of fat with every decade of her adult life. Fat is very soft, and doesn’t keep the skin taut like muscle does. Fat also takes up more space, so it protrudes out through the skin.

Cellulite Treatment

So what can we do about cellulite other than the usual healthy diet and exercise recommendations? The answer lies in getting your skin into top condition by improving the blood circulation and venous and lymphatic drainage of the skin.

Key Plant Extracts

  • Silver Birch (Betula alba) The birch tree has a great need for water (up to 70 litres per day), however it does not store water, but continues to circulate water through its system, by drawing the water up from the roots and then evaporating through its leaves. For this reason it has been traditionally used by Northern Europeans to stimulate the circulatory, lymphatic and detoxification systems in the body. The flavonoids and tannins contained in the leaves are thought to strengthen the walls of the circulatory and lymphatic vessels
  • Butcher’s Broom (Ruscus Aculeatus) Butcher’s Broom has a long history of use, more than 2000 years ago it was noted to be beneficial to the circulatory system. The 2 primary active saponin compounds are ruscogenin and neoruscogenin
  • Rosemary Oil Rosemary oil is a potent anti-oxidant and have been shown to promote blood flow to the skin.

3 Steps to Reduce Cellulite

Step 1 – Gently exfoliate

Free from any aggressive agents, synthetic detergents and harmful microbeads, this scrub uses plant wax and organic sesame seed oil as an effective and natural way to eliminate dead skin cells. Containing biodegradable, beeswax pearls with round, soft edges the scrub loosens dead skin cells without disturbing the healthy layers below. Massaging the scrub with circular motions is the best way to prepare the skin for the powerful Birch Cellulite Oil.

Step 2 – Massage & revitalise

This award-winning, extraordinary oil is bursting with ingredients designed to tone, smooth and firm the skin. Young, organic birch leave extract, organic rosemary and butcher's broom promote healthy, radiant looking skin. Revitalising apricot kernel oil, moisturising organic jojoba oil and vitamin-rich wheat germ oil enliven the skin's appearance. Natural essential oils combine with the other plant extracts to tone the skin, leaving the skin feeling and looking firm, smooth and supple.

Step 3 – Cleanse & Purify

Organic silver birch taken internally is an excellent health supplement to help detoxify and purify the body. Drinking the organic juice on a daily basis will boost lack lustre skin and restore vitality, ensuring a clear and bright complexion. Weleda Birch Juice has the authentic crisp taste of birch and a touch of biodynamically grown lemon juice. A tablespoon of juice added to a glass of water (up to three times daily for three to six weeks) is recommended for best results
