- Product Overview
Slippery elm bark powder contains mucilage, a gelatinous like substance that reacts with water to form a slippery gel-like substance, when taken orally it expands in the digestive tract and helps provide a protective barrier for irritated gastric mucous membranes.
The demulcent effect of the mucilages found in Slippery Elm is most effective when the herb is delivered as a powder mixed with water so it has direct contact with the mucous membranes. This provides a localised anti-inflammatory action in the gastrointestinal tract and a localised barrier against the damaging effects of stomach acid in the oesophagus and stomach. Slippery Elm powder may be mixed with food such as banana and yoghurt, making it very suitable for children
