Time and time again we eat too much or can’t adhere to a weight loss program because we just feel hungry all the time. Understanding your hunger levels is one of the key factors for long term weight management.

Here are a few tips from Mr Vitamins Naturopath, Janne Ramsay, to help you monitor your hunger levels

  • Don’t mistake thirst for hunger. Many people get used to eating when they are actually need hydration
  • Avoid drinking while eating
  • Chew your food well. Chewing your food at least 30 times for a moderate mouthful will start to break down your food, help to create more bulk in your stomach and help you to feel fuller, faster
  • Morning tea and afternoon tea snacks should be nutritious and high in nutrient density
  • Include high quality protein and low GI carbohydrates
  • Avoid carbohydrates in the evening and keep the night time meal light
  • Keeping a diet diary can help you become more aware of what you are actually eating and help you to become more mindful of your food choices
